Different Gender's Views of the Same Story (For April 17, 2009)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CXBZSV0FaVE&feature=channel_page

The link above leads to a video called "How We Didn't Date Each Other" by Lev Yilmaz. The video summarizes the events that occurred during the course of a budding, troubled romance . Instead of only Lev talking, he told the story through a type of "conversation" between him and his potential/failed love interest, as though the viewer was a friend of the two and they were all just catching up over lunch. It is interesting because it is all basically one big chain reaction that keeps going because of how one of them perceives the other's actions. An example would be a rift caused in the relationship due to Lev showing her his Playboy magazines, thinking it would be cool. She thought it was disgusting and thought that he wouldn't call her anymore because she didn't sleep with him. But he still called the next day, and the exchange keeps going. The video shows how some humans of each gender may perceive actions in relationships in very different ways. It is refreshing to see a video that presents its point in two different ways at once.

True Men are Brosephs (For April 10, 2009)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7_Z3D1535Jo&feature=channel_page

The link above leads to a video entitled "Take It to the Next Level." It's by some amateur comedians from a YouTube channel called "Balloon Shop." I really can't say with total confidence that I know what this video is getting at. Begin watching it and you'll see why I say this. However, it seems that this scene is supposed to be a parody of how young guys act these days. This seems to be true, judging from their frequent use of the word "Broseph", a slang term used today that is the equivalent of "bro" or "homie." As the scene occurs, the two men's hyper-masculinity seems to be getting stronger and stronger. It gets to the point where they start doing weird handshakes, riding each other's backs, pinching each other's nipples, and even punching each other. Though all of these actions happen in the span of two and a half minutes seems extreme, you can't deny seeing resemblances between these weird "communication" techniques and two testosterone-filled buddies paling around. Just be careful though, it will be hard not to laugh if you see some guys acting even a little similar to the two guys in the clip.

Men have feelings too (For April 3, 2009)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U6krr40mdHM

The link above is another one from Lev Yilmaz, the artist who made the video from last week. This video is called "I'm Not Going To Think About Her." It breaks past the stereotypes that women always take break-ups worse than men, and that men are very forgetful when it comes to small things in relationships. The video shows many drawings of a girl doing different things, and Lev narrating over it, constantly saying "I'm not gonna think about..." and finishing the sentence with something his ex-girlfriend used to do. There are tons of things he names, making the point that Lev did indeed remember the little things in their relationship, and some of the things he liked most about his ex. The video also gives a different picture of a woman. Stereotypically, a woman would be thought of as the clean one in the relationship, but Lev points out some messy habits his ex had, such as leaving open candy bars in her purse or microwaving plastic on foods. But he doesn't bring these up to show how bad she was. It seems more that he brought them up to show how he even liked her regardless of her mistakes or shortcomings. It's a very thoughtful video, so enjoy.

What Drives a Man (For March 27, 2009)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xXmPFJqTHKo

This link leads to another one of those comics by artist Lev Yilmaz. It is called "What Would Penis Do?" Lev breaks down and analyzes the three driving forces behind a man's actions- the heart, the mind, and the penis. The heart and mind of a man are probably extremely similar to a woman's heart and mind. What really causes most of the man's reckless, stupid actions is... the penis! The penis in the video can be looked at as a "typical" guy- always trying to act manly, brags to its buddies about its latest "adventures" in the locker room, but really, at the end of the day, penis just wants to know that it is wanted. Lev points out that why men act so stupid sometimes in regards to relationships is because the penis does not know how long it will be around for, and always pushes to engage in more "adventures." Lev does not really go into the driving forces of a woman, but to be fair, he ends the clip by saying that he may not know what penis will do, but we might have done it already and know, even if we don't have a penis.

Manly Men (For March 20, 2009)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JvltzwkUEEA

The link above leads to a 1- minute montage video of men doing different activities. Some of the activities are obviously something a "real" man would do, like eating meat in a forest, or chopping wood. Some of them are not perceived as manly, but done with the same machisimo, such as...eating soil... and... paying bills. The clip is worth a watch, because it's one of those things that's so stupid it's funny. Especially when it gets to the point where you think, "Wait a minute...was that last one supposed to be manly?"

Differences in Driving (For March 6, 2009)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xSAyETRm6AI
This is another video where a certain aspect of life is compared between women and men. This one's about driving. It is supposed to be humorous, so don't get too offended. In the video, the girl is very neat in everything, but when it comes to the actual driving, she is oblivious to everything going on around her. She hits a mailbox and a person. The man is sloppy, and when it comes to driving, he does stupid things just for fun, like making donuts in a street. There are a lot of jokes about women being bad drivers, but honestly, some of the stuff about men hit the nail on the head.

Difference in Hygiene Between Genders (For Friday, February 27, 2009)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qehxjub5lyo

This link popped up as one of those videos that other viewers are watching right now, and it seemed like a perfect clip for this blog. It details what women supposedly do in the shower and what men supposedly do in the shower. If you're a pervert and you think you have an idea of what this clip is about, I am sorry to say that I mislead you. It is free of profanity and nude private parts. It is funny in some ways. The woman is very neat in her shower procedures and is very meticulous in rinsing her hair. The man just throws his clothes on the floor. Both look at their bodies naked in the mirror, but the woman is looking at body parts she wants to change, while the man is... admiring himself. The clip makes it seem like women care very much about actually being clean, while the man seems to only be taking a shower because it is what he is supposed to do. While the man is in the shower, he does some nasty stuff, like leave hair on the soap from his butt, fart, and urinate. The woman does not do any of this. I never thought much at all about a woman's shower procedures, but now that I see it from someone else's perspective I am glad that they do not do anything nasty like men do in the shower. If you're a woman and you do not have a clue what men do in the showers, you may not want to watch this clip, because it may make you want to throw out all of the supplies you have right now if a man has been in your shower.
